Gum recession

An undesirable condition, gum recession results in the exposure of roots of teeth, tooth sensitivity, root decay and un-esthetic appearance of teeth.

Gum recession has been classified by the American Academy of Periodontology as a developmental or acquired condition. It is often associated with the loss of soft and hard tissues (such as gum and bone) surrounding the tooth. An American Survey2 found that 88 per cent of individuals 65 years of age and older had at least one site with gingival recession.
